Major Free Sources of BIG Data for Business Intelligence Applications

The following selected sources of Big Data contain free and openly accessible data at global levels. This data is not limited to one country or one subject area.  Ihese sources are highly valuable for developing BI services.

• World Bank Open Data initiative (http://datacatalog.worldbank.org/)
• UN Statistics Department (UNSD) Data Sources:  UN Data website (http://data.un.org/) to explore 25 databases on topics such as crime, food, health and tourism. Also can look at country wide statistics, an API is also available.
• UN Public Administration Network Data (www.Unpan.org)  
• The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has a very large statistical data, available  at http://stats.oecd.org/
• Data clearing houses, e.g., https://www.quandl.com/ and  https://datamarket.com/
• World Conference on BIG DATA (Beijing, October 2014) has very rich information at  http://unstats.un.org/unsd/trade/events/2014/Beijing/default.asp
